The majority of building work in Victoria requires a building permit to be issued by a Building Surveyor before work can commence. A building permit will ensure the proposed building work complies with building legislation. Building legislation in Victoria requires building work to be inspected at different stages to ensure compliance. The building permit will list all mandatory inspection stages that must be called for by the builder.
